TU Business Fishing

Uncompahgre River RV Park is a great fishing launching pad

Let’s say you want to fish in southwest Colorado. And let’s say you’re an adult of a certain age – maybe 50 or more. Have we got a deal for you. Here it is: the Uncompahgre River RV Park in Olathe, Colo.

Mark and Michelle at the URRVP pride themselves on providing a comfortable and relaxing setting with plenty of space to stretch your legs. Each site provides full hook-ups and concrete pads and patios surrounded by natural grass. No RV? No problem, they have two cabins and a luxury, riverside RV for rent as well.  They’re continually working to expand and improve the park. With over a third of a mile of river frontage on 29 acres, there is plenty of improved and natural space for you to enjoy.

Not familiar with Olathe? OK — that’s the sign of a great place to fish. It’s a sleepy little town near Montrose that provides a quiet and peaceful setting for this great RV park. The URRVP is located on the south edge of Olathe, with the benefits of city water and sewer services and shopping and medical care just a few blocks away. Highway 50 is over half a mile to the east and traffic noise is minimal here. After all, you don’t come here for highway noise.

What should you come here for? Fishing. With a third mile of river frontage, you can fish for brown trout right at URRVP. With the exception of the spring runoff period in late June and July, fishing is great at the park. It’s best from fall through spring when the river is clear. But there are many options for fishing in the area, including Blue Mesa Reservoir and the Gunnison River. Guided fishing adventures are available through another great TU Business member, RIGS Fly Shop and Guide Service in nearby Ridgway. They offer 1/2-day to 5-day guided float fly fishing trips on the Gunnison, Uncompahgre and other nearby rivers, in addition to walk/wade guide trips and Tenkara trips.

But fishing isn’t the only reason to come to URRVP. There’s the peace and quiet of the cottonwood gallery along the river. There are the neighbors, too. Like all rivers in the arid west, the Uncompahgre teems with winged and four-footed wildlife. There are geese, ducks, owls, bald and golden eagles, great blue herons, chukars, multiple species of hummingbirds, belted kingfishers, racoons, skunks, beaver, mink, foxes, and even the occasional badger that pass through.

So check them out. Uncompahgre River RV Park is a great place to fish. It’s a great place to stay. And they’re a great TU Business member.
