TODAY: Teleconference on Senate Efforts to Block Clean Water Rule

Sportsmen warn Congress about dangers of derailing Clean Water Act protections for waterways and wildlife habitats

WASHINGTON This week, the Senate could derail a federal rule that would restore some Clean Water Act protections for headwater streams and wetlands across the country. For years, sportsmen have advocated in support of the rulemaking and the valuable fish and wildlife habitat it would sustain.

Today, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership will host a teleconference focusing on the significance of the Senates actions and the importance of the Army Corps of Engineers and Environmental Protection Agencys proposed rule.

Leaders of the Izaak Walton League of America, National Wildlife Federation and Trout Unlimited, along with the TRCP, will discuss their recent letter to congressional appropriators urging their opposition to clean water riders. The Senate rider is opposed widely by American hunters and anglers: 16 leading sportsmens organizations recently wrote to Congress voicing their opposition.

Undermining the clean water rule, which currently is open to public comment, would negatively impact the nations hunting and fishing economy, which generates $200 billion in economic activity and 1.5 million jobs each year.
