Trout Unlimited to Host One-Fly Fishing Tournament on the Musconectcong River

Proceeds will fund TU’s restoration work on the river.

Port Murray, N.J. – Trout Unlimited’s New Jersey Council will host the first annual One-Fly Fishing Tournament on the Musconetcong River on Saturday, October 9.

The one-day fly fishing tournament will test fly anglers’ skills by limiting each contestant to only one fly pattern to be used during the competition. This catch-and- release trout fishing contest will be won by the angler who catches the most trout, measured in inches.

Our hope is that this tournament brings attention to the fact that the Musky is a tremendous trout fishery and has much to offer anglers throughout the region, said Brian Cowden, Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative coordinator.

The cost to enter the tournament is $100. Contestants should meet at the Cassia Grill at 1280, Route 57 North in Port Murray a briefing and to draw a contest partner. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and will end at 4:30 p.m. Walk-on registrants are welcome.

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards funding restoration projects on the river. The Musconetcong River is the location of Trout Unlimited’s Home Rivers Initiative, a watershed-based restoration project. There are 10 TU chapters in New Jersey.

Trout Unlimited is the nation’s largest coldwater conservation organization, with 140,000 members dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds.
