About Us
Swift River Fly Fishing was established over 25 years ago as a builder and restorer of bamboo fly rods. That remains the core of the business along with custom designed and built fiberglass fly rods. The retail shop is located in a post and beam barn and carries new and vintage rods, classic fly reels, wooden canoes, decoys, waxed canvas bags and packs, flies, and miscellaneous tackle. The shop is a comfortable place to gather and talk angling, with snow shoe chairs and a wood pellet stove for winter. The shop is opened most days on request by email, text, or phone. During warmer weather customers stop in to examine and cast bamboo rods by makers such as Edwards, F. E. Thomas, Granger, Leonard, Thomas and Thomas, and a range of contemporary makers.
What we do
Swift River also provides guide services on the Swift River, the Millers, the Westfield, and the Deerfield. In recent years the shop has organized trips to fish for native brown trout in Ireland and Scotland. During the off season the shop also repairs and restores bamboo fly rods.
Where we do it
We are located in western Massachusetts near Quabbin Reservoir and the headwaters of the Swift River.
