Editor’s note: The following is exerpted from TU’s book, “Trout Tips,” which is available online for overnight delivery.
Ever get gunk and weeds on your tippet or leader? Of course. We all do. But rather than using your fingers to try to pick the mess of your fly, weight or knots connect the leader to the tippet (places where the weeds and gunk collect), simply stretch out the tippet and use your thumb to pluck it, as if you’re plucking the strings of a banjo.
The vibration will cuase the weeds to fly right off. It’s faster, cleaner and easier to clean your tippet this weay than any other.
