Sometimes river restoration work has TU working with sawyers who use massive chainsaws like this.
In the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee, TU partnered with the Forest Service to help place large wood products in the river to improve trout habitat. Selectively cutting trees and using heavy equipment to place them just right across and in rivers creates hiding places for trout, yet sometimes confounding anglers.
But, when habitat improves for safety, spawning and rearing, the long-term outcome for anglers fishing these rivers also improves with more trout living better lives.
