There is no greater tradition in fly fishing than the House of Hardy. For over 150 years Hardy has put unparalleled passion into its craft.
In partnership with Trout Unlimited and to honor its milestone 65th anniversary, Hardy created a special reel to highlight the work TU does in the States. Removing unnecessary dams and reconnecting waterways is just some of the work Hardy supports to ensure future generations can experience the thrill of wild and native trout and salmon.
A classic reel for a cause
Building off classic Hardy designs, the reel is called the TU Tealweight. It’s a click-pawl that will best accommodate 3- or 4-weight lines, and it is hand-built at the Hardy factory in Alnwick, England.
With only 300 made, TU has access to 100 reels to support the Griffith Circle year end match campaign. Hardy will give $100 from each reel back to TU to enhance its efforts in river conservation.
We visited the factory and saw the prototype—it’s truly stunning. Hardy designed a special green color and used a proprietary engraving system to etch the TU logo on the reel before anodization.
The original Hardy Tealweight series was designed in 2001. A classic freshwater fly reel, these special versions of Hardy’s legendary Lightweight Series reels were introduced initially as a reel for overseas markets. The Tealweight III was based on the Hardy Featherweight reel, and this reel forms the basis for the new, limited-edition TU Tealweight.
The TU Tealweight is an ideal reel for light trout fishing with a shorter rod. The cosmetic appeal of the Tealweight is unmatched in classic style click and pawl reels. Built by hand at the Hardy factory each reel features a unique serial number, hand polished mirror finish frame anodized a deep teal green and a satin silver finished spool. The reel is fitted with an adjustable click-and-pawl check, 3 screw latch cover, hand polished nickel silver single screw line guard, polished brass handle post and is engraved with the TU Trout logo. Each reel comes in a TU branded carrying case.
