One of the best things about my job – and there are a lot of best things – is working with young companies. These are businesses, often run by young entrepreneurs, who haven’t been on the fly fishing scene for very long. Don’t get me wrong, I love all our TU Business members. I love working with the heavyweights – the ones we all know and love. They make and sell great products, and most of them are generous supporters of conservation. But sometimes, it’s the little guys and gals that are new in the game that can make a day really shine. So it is with Pescador on the Fly.
You may not have heard of Jeff Ditsworth and his small company in West Des Moines, Iowa. But you will – you most definitely will. They sell super compact fly rod combos in 5-weight and 8-weight models that are just the thing for the traveling angler. They sell a great selection of Jeff Currier decals. They sell The Cold Bottle, a high-end water bottle that keeps drinks cold all day. And they don’t sell a lot more.
But what they do is stand up for conservation. They’re a TU Business member, and right out of the chute, they made the decision to devote a portion of their sales back to conservation. That’s a real commitment for a small company. But it’s the kind of commitment that makes them special.
