I’ve had the good fortune to visit the Palometa Club in Punta Allen, about three hours by car south of Cancun, to chase bonefish and permit. When I saw this video, a rush of great memories came back to me—from our jovial driver, Manny, to the ride to the lodge where all the magic happens, it’s all quite the experience. Host Dick Cameron is about as genuine a guy as you’ll find, and the guides are amazingly patient and absolutely will help you become a better angler over the course of your time at the lodge
And then, of course, there’s the fishing.
The lodge hosts a permit tournament every year, in conjunctiong with the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust. Each fish caught is tagged for research and conservation purposes and released. I had the privilege to tag three permit a few years back thanks to the great guides at the Palometa Club. This is a fishing tournament with a soul. Enjoy the video, and, if you ever get the chance, visit Punta Allen and the Palometa Club.
