A couple years ago, I bought a small camper in preparation for an extended trip to the Arctic. It’s easily been one of my best purchases—it gets regular use, and it gets me and my fishing crew streamside all summer long and well into the fall.
But, at first, I struggled with counterintuitive act of backing a trailer up. It didn’t take long to figure it out, but at first, it was … awkward. And, of course, I had people watching me and coaching me and offering up all kinds of little tricks. It wasn’t unlike the short video below, where Family Guy’s Peter attracts a crowd of onlookers as he continuously flubs the boat launch.
While I eventually passed the “test of manhood,” and am now fairly adept at reverse trailering, I still find myself having to take it slow and easy. And that summer in the Arctic? Yeah… I purposely looked for pull-through campsites so I didn’t have to back the damn thing up for a crowd of onlookers.
Or, as Peter would say, “Ah, hell. We’re gonna be on the internet.”
All Peter needs is a pull-through boat ramp.
