In the high deserts of Wyoming, habitat restoration work spans generations; providing kids an opportunity to get dirty and explore different career paths while building beaver dam analogs (BDA) on Muddy Creek.

An important coldwater producer to the Colorado River Basin, Muddy Creek hosts native Colorado River cutthroat trout. Over-grazing, down cut banks and drought wreaked havoc, and without intervention, this creek was on a path towards joining its high desert surroundings.

Thanks to partners in the BLM, Wyoming Game & Fish and the Wyoming Conservation Corp and federal funding, summer work commenced with BDA building to expand this coldwater refugia.

Keeping coldwater high in headwaters like these of the Little Snake River Basin is imperative to wildlife and people. It also provides fulfilling work for adults and youth alike.
