I caught three fish in this water, within 10 minutes after I snapped the above photo. But, I’m not going to tell you where or how I did it. That’s a riddle for you to crack. And the person who best retraces my footsteps (or offers a better strategy!) is going to win a Hatch Outdoors Finatic 4-Plus reel, worth a cool $450.
No foolin’. Get schoolin’.
I will give you a couple clues. First, I caught two on the same dry fly (a hopper). And I caught one on a streamer fly. I won’t tell you which order I caught them in. But I will tell you that the biggest trout ate the streamer.
Clue number two is that the water you see, from the riffle all the way to the rock wall, is very deep. Too deep to wade in. That should tell you all you need to know about where I stood and where I cast (and how I cast).
Now… go get ‘em, tiger.
I’m going to read the strategic approaches in the comment thread below. Anything over three sentences is automatically DQ’d. So keep it short and simple.
If there’s a tie with multiple correct answers, I’m going to put them all in a hat and pull one winner for the reel. I’ll announce the winner next Monday. Fair enough? Good.
Now go…
