TU, NOAA announce restoration grants
Conservation group and government agency seek proposals for river restoration work in Northeast and Alaska
WASHINGTON, D.C. Trout Unlimited and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Restoration Center are seeking grant applicants in the Northeast and in Alaska for projects aimed at restoring rivers and streams in order to improve habitat for oceangoing trout and salmon and other sea-run fish.
Since 2001, this TU-NOAA partnership has awarded over $5 million and supported over 65 community-driven projects that have improved fish habitat, population numbers and, of course, the quality of fishing in affected areas.
Although all types of habitat improvement projects will be considered, there is a special emphasis on projects that improve fish passage. Projects that include culvert repair or replacement will be especially considered. Eligible projects will be in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts or Alaska.
